Dressing for Halloween

Dressing for Halloween has become a much anticipated tradition in the celebrity world. With A-listers such as Heidi Klum and Miranda Kerr hosting Halloween parties, it’s no wonder that celebrities will go all out to dress as someone –or something – else. Although we may not receive an invite to Klum’s annual Halloween bash, there are several events in Kigali tomorrow, November 1st, so make sure you’re prepared!

The Superhero

Who wouldn’t want to have superpowers and a legitimate reason to wear a cape? Television actress and beauty Kim Kardashian has been a superhero in multiple years. In 2011, she was Superwoman, her red and gold body suit with matching headband, thigh high red boots and black wig captured the comic book hero’s style impeccably.

In 2012, Kim traded in the "good” for the "bad” and played Poison Ivy, an eco-terrorism villain in the Batman series. Her red wig and poison ivy mask were the highlights of the costume.

Trending

There will always be celebrities who bring out their wit during Halloween – and dress as something non-conventional but that is a topical point of conversation. In 2010, Hills actress and fashion designer Lauren Conrad dressed as the Twitter bird – just as Twitter was taking the social media sector by storm. This year, Hilton heiress and socialite Paris Hilton dressed as Miley Cyrus in her much debated risqué performance with Robin Thicke at the VMAs.

Fairy Tale

Fairy tale characters will always be a highly utilized, ladylike option. Singer Gwen Stefani, mom to Kingston and Zuma with rocker hubby Gavin Rossdale, brought out her feminine side and dressed as the fairy tale princess Cinderella. Her iconic ice-blue dress and updo was a spot-on characterisation of the beloved princess who snags her prince charming.

Historical Figure

Dressing as an iconic historical figure such as Joan of Arc or Queen Elizabeth is a brilliant way to honour the courageous women of our past. American actress Blake Lively, married to Ryan Reynolds, dressed as the infamous Cleopatra in a taping of a television show last year. Her jet-black wig and gold dress were stunning.

Couple Costumes

If you have a significant other, or even an open-minded date on Halloween, I highly recommend you dress as a pair; it’s double the fun! Grammy winner John Legend and his wife Christine Teigen went to a Halloween bash as a Native American Indian and a cowboy. Christine’s fringed dress complimented John’s cowboy hat and bandanna beautifully.

For couples up for a bit more fun, dress as something inanimate like Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon. Mariah dressed up as a bag of chocolate chip cookies while Nick was a giant box of milk. Now that’s a pair who likes to have fun together!

Whatever your costume choice is, make sure to make a full commitment to your character. Wigs, jewelry, matching shoes and creative make-up is strongly encouraged!  That’s the fashion scoop for this week. Got a thought? Trend? Style you hate? Send it my way.
