Rwanda yesterday handed over two Congolese soldiers and one civilian who were arrested in the country to the Extended Joint Verification Mechanism (EJVM).

The trio was handed over at a function at the Rwanda-DRC border in Rubavu District.

They include FARDC army Captain Augustin Bareke and Private Tshiteya Kasongo, as well as a civilian, Isac Muzige. FARDC is the Congolese national army. The three are accused of entering Rwanda illegally.

"In a period of two months, Rwanda has handed over to EJVM six Congolese military personnel who illegally entered Rwanda territory.  This is a gesture of goodwill aimed at promoting good relations with our neighbours,” Brig. Gen. Joseph Nzabamwita, the defence and military spokesperson, said in a statement.

The three Congolese citizens were handed over to six EJVM officers headed by Col. Eric Mabalane from South Africa. The three were arrested separately on Rwanda territory.

Other Congolese arrested and then handed over to the EJVM previously include Sergeant Major Andre Kusakana Munanga, Corporal Karama Maloba and Corporal Muya Wanumbi Jojo.
