When men play the clingy role

I remember this one guy who for some reason felt I was the best company in the world and therefore wanted to be around me 24/7. Now that would have been cool if at one point, we didn’t run out of what to say, leaving me wishing someone else was around.

I remember this one guy who for some reason felt I was the best company in the world and therefore wanted to be around me 24/7. Now that would have been cool if at one point, we didn’t run out of what to say, leaving me wishing someone else was around.

Every time we hang out, he insisted that anything but the two of us was simply non-negotiable. Apparently that was our ‘quality time’. However, like me and contrary to what some guys think, not all women want that never ending quality time. It’s nice to hang around other people and give yourselves a chance to miss each other. What are you doing hanging out with yourselves every second of everyday?

This one chick’s boyfriend has taken the whole ‘I want to be with you alone’ stunt to another level. He makes sure he takes her out to places he is sure they will not be interrupted and if fate brings an intruder their way, he will curse and scream at her later about not paying enough attention to him.

Every time she invites him to her place, nothing pisses him off more than when she insists on watching a movie. What does he want? He wants her to just sit there and look at him? Who is he, Channing Tatum?  According to him, the movie distracts her and ruins their quality time. Dude, you were together just yesterday…you think for today she can do something else?

Things took an even more awkward turn when he started acting funny around her friends claiming they too were a distraction. He complained about everything and everyone. So I told her that if she really loves her man, they should pack their bags and move to the moon because I can guarantee that is the only place she will not be distracted – unless some hot astronaut decides to take a trip, of course.

This clingy thing is not as odd when chicks do it because it is kind of expected of us but when a man acts that way, it is actually disturbing. When I asked a couple of male friends why guys, whom we normally assume are aloof in a way, get clingy, they literally branded these guys a waste of two billion years of evolution.

Now, harsh as that may sound, men are men. And no man wants to hear that another guy was out acting like a chick – there are gay guys for that – no offense. You might as well go out for a mani-pedi and gossip with the manicurist.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a crime to dot on a chick, in fact some chicks find it sexy. However, for the ones that don’t, sure they want love and affection, but they also do not want to be bludgeoned with it. A little mix and mingling with other people is good for a relationship. I’m no expert but even I know the thrill of missing someone and then seeing them again. Trust me…it beats watching him throw his boxers on the floor every time he hops into the shower as if he doesn’t know where the laundry basket is!

There is plenty of time to get clingy when you get married. With marriage, there’s just no way around it – you are in each other’s faces for life, which isn’t so bad seeing as that is what you literally signed up for. Sibyo?
