Kingdom Education Centre, a private nursery school, last week offered certificates to 53 children who completed three years of childhood learning.

The school head, Bishop Joseph Karasanyi, said both teachers and parents have a role to play in their children’s education.  In the early years, he said, parents are their children’s first teachers, exploring nature, reading together, cooking together, and counting together. When a child begins formal school, the parent’s job is to show him the value of education. As preschoolers grow into school age kids, parents become their coaches. Bishop Kasayanyi said through guidance and reminders, parents help their kids organise their time and support their desires to learn new things in and out of school. He said parents should try and notice attributes and hobbies of their children.

The Director of Education in Kicukiro District, Ange Marie Claire Dusabe, thanked the school for investing in the Rwanda education sector where a gap is evident when it comes to pre-primary education, saying education is the key route through which government can achieve its development goals and the targets of Vision 2020.
