Some 6,820 books have been distributed to schools in Bugesera District to improve reading culture in the country.The books were donated by Bakame Editions, an organisation that publishes books written in Kinyarwanda.The books include children’s storybooks, reference books for teachers, novels and nonfiction books for recreational reading and parents love stories.   "Bakame Editions are committed to promoting reading culture in the country not only to students but also adults,” said Specioza Karangwa, the director of Bakame Editions Rwanda.She said although government is giving out books to students, they saw it important to add on what they have."The books will help to improve the education background of infants and also to promote reading culture. When children start reading what they understand in their language, it makes them catch up easily in any other language.” The books were distributed to Ruhuha Parish and Mazane Primary School in Rweru Sector. Parents and children were each given a book.  At Mazane Primary School, 222 students received a book each and parents 117 parents also got reading books.The head teacher, Valencie Sebanane, said previously, one book could be read by three pupils, but now it will improve the speed at which they conduct lessons."With the new books, teachers can model effective use of story in the classroom for students, who will then practice this during their free period,” Sebanane said. Aramanzani Musonera, a primary five pupil, said the initiative would promote reading culture because students fear to read "big books but smaller ones can be easy to start with.”Bakame Editions also distributed 7,585 books in Karongi District.
