Dear editor,
Rwanda has been registering a steady economic recovery. I recall a time when it was a hustle and pain for traders getting through customs.

With all the goods and merchandise we had toiled to transport from other countries like Uganda, we had to add on the burden of waiting for days even weeks to get cleared at customs.

Since then it is now eight years, and I must confess that there is a big difference.

The new policies that Rwanda Revenue Authority has embarked on are proving to be worthwhile.

Going through customs is no longer a hectic and tiring experience for us traders. With the right papers, the process is faster and this is because of the cut down in the bureaucracy involved.

Though still present, the bureaucracy those days was deadening and would cause a business to collapse.

Bureaucracy slows down businesses and if not overcome it can slow down the rate of development.

With the new ICT era this should not be a big problem since everything today can be done using the internet and new sophisticated software that quicken business transactions.
