It was a moment of joy for the Rwandan contestants, who were on Sunday selected, among other 25 to contest in the sixth edition of the East African Breweries Limited (EABL) Tusker Project Fame season six.The three contestants representing Rwanda at the annual reality television singing competition are Patrick Nyamitari a reknown muscian, Peace Jolis and a one Phiona. By press time details about the three Rwandan contestants were not yet released.The initial stage of selecting contestants ended a few weeks ago and a number of contestants were selected from various countries that make up East Africa to join the music academy. There are 25 contestants; Kenya is represented by five contestants, Burundi (1), Uganda (4), Rwanda (3), Tanzania (4) and South Sudan (1). As announced by one of the prominent judges Ian Mbugua, thise 6th edition of East Africa’s biggest and most popular music competition will feature new innovations and surprises compared to the previous editions."This time we need people who can sing and play guitars or instruments,” said Mbugua.The judges are Tanzania’s music legend Zahir Ali Zoro, Ugandan songbird Juliana Kanyomozi and Ian Mbugua from Kenya. The contestants will compete to win a Kshs5million prize, (approximately Rwf35m) and a one year record deal with Universal Music Group South Africa.The competition started in 2006 and Kenya’s Valerie Kimani was crowned the first winner of the competition. Other previous winners are Esther Nabaasa from Uganda, our own Alpha Rwirangira, Davis Ntare of Uganda and Ruth Matete from Kenya, in the respective years.
