The Korean Ambassador to Rwanda, Soon Taik Hwang, has said the relationship between Rwanda and Korea is steadily growing.  While celebrating Korea Day in Musanze District on Saturday, Amb. Soon said that Rwanda has steadily developed, overcoming the 1994 Genocide that left the country in rubble, adding that this has endeared his countrymen to Rwanda.The celebrations, which were organised by Korea community in Rwanda, were the first of its kind to be celebrated in another country outside Korea, according to embassy officials. It also marked 50 years of Korean presence in Rwanda.Amb. Soon said that both countries started to have good relationship in 1963 but for that long time, they couldn’t deepen relationship until Korea established its embassy in 2011.Korea support "Rwanda’s growth has been rising year on year and we highly appreciate this which is why we would like to continue being part of his success story. The people of Korea also went through some tragic times years ago and they managed to overcome, which is what I see Rwanda is doing,” he said. Korea, through the Korea International Corporation Agency (Koika), supports various projects in Rwanda in education, infrastructure, agriculture among others. The event was characterised by the Korean Culture Show and featured performances such as Korean martial arts, Taekwondo and Hapkido, traditional Korean music, among others.The Mayor of Musanze District Winfilde Mpembyemungu, said it was a positive gesture that the Korean community chose to mark day in her district.
