Despite dropping four points in the opening two matches of the 2013/14 Turbo King Football League, SC Kiyovu coach Gilbert Yaounde Kanyankole still insists his side should not be written off as they are "genuine title contenders”. "The battle has just started; we are not giving up yet because if you look at the way the team is playing, we are still firmly in it -we are real title contenders and one thing I am sure of is that this (league race) will go to the wire,” he said after the goalless draw with the champion Rayon Sports on Saturday. It was the second stalemate in as many games following the 1-1 draw against Musanze on the opening weekend. He added, "I believe we can [win the championship], yes, but we have a lot of work to do first,” Kanyankole said, adding that, "I think it’s open, right? I don’t think anyone has won it because it’s still too early in the season.” Kanyankole calls for patience The former Vital’O coach urged fans to be patient as he builds a team which can compete for trophies. "I need a time to settle in and to know the players well as I build my own team, which can be consistent. It takes time to build a strong and winning team, so our fans need to be a little patient,” he pleaded.Kanyankole, who guided Burundi Vital’O to the Cecafa/Kagame Cup victory this year in Darfur, noted,  "When you look at the way the  players performed against Rayon Sports and keeping in mind that I was missing some key players, I think we have a chance to challenge for the title.” "All I need is patience from SC Kiyovu fans. I can assure them that we will be a strong team capable of competing with the big teams in the league.” About the draw with archrivals Rayon, he said, "We did well against the champions, especially defensively, we were well organised but we lacked a bit of sharpness in-front of their goal. We wanted a win but still got a point against a strong team.” In their next match, SC Kiyovu will host Gicumbi with both teams looking to register their first win of the season. Kanyankole confirmed his team will be boosted by the availability of impressive midfielder Christian Mbirizi and Girikwishaka brothers (Michel and Jean) as well as striker Lule Yussuf Ndayishimiye, who all missed the derby against Rayon Sports.
