SEC opens first volleyball academy

Football academy Sports Empowerment Centre (SEC) has started a volleyball academy with a view to help nurture a new generation of talented players.

Football academy Sports Empowerment Centre (SEC) has started a volleyball academy with a view to help nurture a new generation of talented players.The academy, the first of its kind in Rwanda, so far has 25 players aged between 12 and 14 years and are trained by APR and national team setter Elie Mutabazi."Since all the players are school-going children, for now we train on weekends only but the plan is to accommodate all the players here with their parents’ consent,” Mutabazi told this paper on Thursday.According to SEC proprietor, Augustin Munyandamutsa, they wish to make a huge impact on development of the sport in Rwanda."We intend to nurture a young and exciting generation of players for clubs and the national teams; our aim is to see these youngsters eventually play at the highest level possible,” he said.SEC also has a fully fledged football academy, arguably the best in the country, which has produced several of the current crop of young players including Amavubi Stars defenders Solomon Nirisarika and Michel Rusheshangoga.
