FIVB cancels Kampala Beach Volleyball Open

The International Beach Volleyball Open that was to be hosted in Kampala, Uganda from September 23 to 29 has been called off after the Promoters of the event failed to meet the requirements.

The International Beach Volleyball Open that was to be hosted in Kampala, Uganda from September 23 to 29 has been called off after the Promoters of the event failed to meet the requirements.

The House of Talent has failed to meet certain requirements which forced the International Volleyball Federation to cancel the event and they have not yet chosen a new host.

Rwanda was supposed to send four teams in both genders. The two men’s teams include one that comprises national team captain Christophe

Mukunzi and Pierre Marshal Kwizera, while he other was made up of Olivier Ntagengwa and national team’s number one setter Elie Mutabazi.

The Women’s teams comprised the 2011 African champions Charlotte Nzayisenga and Denise Mutatsimpundu as well as the duo of Emilienne Uwineza and Seraphine Mukantambara.

According to the Chairperson of the Rwanda Volleyball Federation, Gustave Nkurunziza they have no idea where ivent will be taking place. "We haven’t got any communication and we don’t know where the tournament will take place.”

The FIVB Promoter, Eddie Okila told the Ugandan media "I wish to officially announce that we have this evening lost the chance to host the 2013 Kampala Open Beach Volleyball Event in Kampala that was scheduled to take place from 23rd to 29th September.”

"We will be giving the details leading to the unsuccessful staging of 2013 event in a full press statement by weekend.

We will also make an official communication to our official sponsors and partners,” he said.
