NATIONAL Under-19 women’s handball team suffered a second heavy defeat on Tuesday against DR Congo 46-17 to be eliminated from the preliminary stages of the ongoing 19th African Junior Championships in Oyo, Congo Brazzaville.

The defeat was the second in a row for the debutants, who were thumped mercilessly 58-11 by last edition’s finalists Angola a day before.

It means that Rwanda can not realise their dream of qualifying for next year’s World Championships which will be hosted by Brazil.

"I think there is no one to blame for the two losses against more experienced and better prepared teams like Angola and DR Congo,” Rwanda handball federation’s secretary general told Times Sport from Oyo.

He noted, "But this is a good learning curve for all of us, including the players, coaches and the federation, next time it won’t be the same case, we will better prepared.”

After getting knocked-out, Rwanda will face Mali in the 6/7th position classification match on Thursday.
