Senior national volleyball team and APR player Theodore Hyango has been slapped with a two-year ban for featuring in two national leagues at the same time. An inquiry found that the player was featuring for both APR and Congolese side The Young.

Hyango became the centre of controversy when after helping APR to 3-1 and 3-0 victories over the National University of Rwanda and Lycee de Nyanza, respectively, in June. The Rwanda Volleyball Federation launched investigations into the matter which found the player guilty of featuring for the two teams concurrently, according to Gertrude Kubwimana, the new technical director.

As a result he was banned for two years both at club and national level effective September 1. APR volleyball club was also reprimanded, losing six points in the process. Consequently, APR dropped from the summit of the table to third place with 44 points behind UNR, Inatek and Nyanza.peter.kamasa@newtimes.co.rw
