The Liberal Party (PL) has advised Kigali residents living in poor structures to upgrade and align their houses to the city master plan to avoid eviction or expropriation. Protais Mitali, the party’s president, made the remarks while campaigning for the PL candidates contesting in the September parliamentary elections at a rally in Gahanga, Kicukiro District, on Monday.Mitali said his party will strive to develop infrastructure and other economic enablers to help city dwellers accumulate income to finance the appropriate domiciles.  "As far as we are concerned, we shall, if elected in big numbers, make sure the city residents in suburbs like Gahanga get all the amenities they need to facilitate their business growth,” he said.Mitali reiterated the party’s commitment to fight for justice and safeguard civil liberties of all people.  A week after the parliamentary campaigns kicked off, this was PL’s first time to campaign in the City of Kigali, having held their inaugural rally in Rusizi District. Some voters who spoke to The New Times after the rally welcomed the party promises."Their programme is good because they promote liberty for every Rwandan and seek justice for all of us,” said Emmanuel Gakeli, 65, a retired teacher. Gakeli’s sentiment was shared by Emmanuel Habiryayo, 50, a trader from Gahanga centre, who said, "The good thing with the Liberal Party is that they want unity for all Rwandans, but I know, RPF and PSD will be saying the same; we have confidence in all the parties in general but will certainly make a choice.”Modeste Kayitana, a pharmacist in Gahanga, says "campaigns help shed light on every candidate’s promises, but who said we do not understand which candidate is better for us?”The party later campaigned in Nyamata town in Bugesera District.Campaign programme After campaigning in Gahanga and Nyamata on Monday, PL continued to Eastern Province with rallies in Ngoma and Gatsibo districts.
