Thousands of Rwamagana District residents yesterday assured parliamentary candidates on the RPF-Inkotanyi ticket that they will vote for the party come Election Day because of what the party has done during the few years in power. The assurance was made as RPF candidates carried out a marathon campaign in different sectors within the district. Those that spoke to The New Times during the rallies said that RPF candidates were the choice of the people mainly due to the party’s achievements.Jean Marie Vianney Kayibanda, one of the residents said the district had for years lagged behind until RPF started managing the affairs of the country.Kayibanda said that the party’s performance record was visible for all to see."Our choice is one way...our district was marginalised by past regimes. It was not until RPF was in office that we started getting equal treatment with other regions. So, to me, somebody running for RPF is simply the candidate of choice,” he said.In praise of RPF "Besides revamping the economy, marginalisation based on religion and ethnicity is now history. Rwamagana town is occupied mostly by Muslims, who had no say during past regimes. But today we are equals with other religions...this is due to RPF. You see why we must vote for it,” said Hajjat Madina Murekatete.Among the parliamentary hopefuls representing Rwamagana District is former Mufti Saleh Habimana.Constance Rwaka Mukayuhi, one of the aspirants assured residents that RPF would continue to build the nation if given the mandate."One of the reasons we want to return to parliament is to continue our noble cause to serve the people. What we achieved as RPF speaks volumes...I am happy that you appreciate. Just give us your votes for the good of our nation,” said Mukayuhi, who has been chairperson of the parliamentary committee on budget and national patrimony.
