Rwanda’s most promising long runner Felicien Muhitira put on a dazzling display of his potential when he finished in fifth position in the men’s 10000m final on his debut at the African Junior Championships in Reduit city, Mauritius on Friday.

Rwanda’s most promising long runner Felicien Muhitira put on a dazzling display of his potential when he finished in fifth position in the men’s 10000m final on his debut at the African Junior Championships in Reduit city, Mauritius on Friday.
The youngster, tipped by observers to be a future national champion, clocked 29’31”5”’ to finish behind Ugandan Moses Kurong, who won the race in a time of 28’31”80”’. Kenya’s Elvis Cheboi settled for silver while Josephat Kiprop won bronze.
Despite not making it to the podium, Muhitira beat Ethiopian pair of Abeje Ayana and Bitew Worku and Gabonese Sian Arsene Ndong as well as Algerian Djarmouni Seifeddine.
The 800m event saw Ethiopians outpace Kenyans with victory for Gebremariam Alem, who clocked 2’03”7”’and his compatriot Tessema Tigst Assefa took bronze in a time of 2’05”65”’ just behind Kenya’s Agatha Kimaswai (2’04”91”’).
