Hill Festival winds up with reggae vibes, local flair

Hill Festival, the highly anticipated two-day event that marked its inaugural edition on Friday, August 4, kicked off with a fusion of reggae rhythms and traditional melodies with captivating performances that left fans eagerly anticipating the next edition.

The festival, playing host to an extraordinary and sensational lineup of both local and international artists at Canal Olympia, Rebero, is a family friendly event that brings together the best artistes in Afro pop, Reggae, Hip Hop, Jazz, Traditional African Dance and Music.

The event began with MC Keza and MC Manzi Lion, setting the stage for an evening of excitement, fans eagerly awaited the dynamic duo's performance, along with the anticipated acts that would follow. The line-up included Symphony Band, Inner circle, DJs, Bulldog, Chris Eazy, Ruti Joel, Intayoberana to mention but a few.

Kicking off on a cultural note at 8 pm, the Intayoberana, traditional dancers wove a tapestry of movement and tradition, their rhythmic steps resonating with the rich heritage of Rwanda.

The group's exceptional performance also showcased striking gestures imitating the act resemblances to the symbols of Umuganura (the national harvest festival) usually celebrated August 4. Their performance was a vibrant tribute to the country's roots, setting the stage for an eclectic mix of talent to follow.

As fans were already immersed in the music&039;s rhythm, the stage lit up with a magnetic energy as Chris Easy, a local artiste known for his infectious beats and engaging lyrics, took the stage with his distinct artistic signature that blends childlike style, performing among his hit songs 'Eden', 'Basi Sori', 'Inana', 'Lala' and 'Ese Urabizi'?

With over 20 minutes on the stage, he held the crowd spellbound with each song he played and every word he sang, creating an unforgettable memory between him and his turned up fans.

Shortly after, at 9: 10 pm, the stage was taken over by Bulldog, an iconic rapper whose name reverberates through the local music scene, commanding the audience's attention with his lyrical prowess and thought-provoking verses.

Taking the stage with his hard core and lyrical iconic hits 'Mpe Enkoni', 'Nk'Umusaza' and many others, his performance was beyond a mere show; it showed the power of words, underscoring the ability of artistic expression to communicate profound messages.

Adding a touch of nostalgia and authenticity, Ruti Joel, a traditional singer who skillfully blends traditional musical elements with modern ones, creating songs that exude a sweet and contemporary charm, took the stage.

With his songs 'Cunda', 'Igikobwa', 'Cyane' and many others, expectantly, his performance was characterized by an unmistakable identity that resonated with audiences making his songs cherished by people from all walks of life.

Who will perform at the Hill Festival?

As DJ Sonia stepped onto the stage at 11 pm, a sense of anticipation rippled through the fans, announcing flow of reggae vibes from Inner Cycle, the Jamaica&039;s legends. With deft finesse, she seamlessly intertwined her selections, curating a sonic journey that set the stage for an immersive musical experience.

Her track list ignited an atmosphere of collective nostalgia and connection, as the crowd united in joyous harmonies, singing along to the familiar tunes like 'One love' that echoed through the air and to everyone around.

At precisely 11:20 pm, the reggae group, adorned in their iconic reggae attire, took to the stage with an air of readiness, poised to deliver a captivating show.

Expectantly, the crowd erupted in hype as the band took off with their classic and iconic hits 'da bomb', 'Sweet (A la la la long)', 'Rock with you' and many others, their incredible performance echoed across the performing ground. The group's seamless blend of reggae, rock, and pop had everyone moving to the beat, transcending language barriers and uniting people through the universal language of music.

As the show drew closer, they paid tribute to the late and iconic Bob Marley by performing an acapella version of his iconic single 'One Love' prompting the crowd to join in and sing along passionately.

However, despite the sensational performances and diverse musical offerings, the turnout of attendees was modest. Despite this, the intimate atmosphere showcased a sense of hospitality among those present, creating an opportunity for wider connections between foreigners and locals.

It is worth noting that, the first edition of Hill Festival at Canal Olympi,a Rebero not only showcased the incredible talents of local artists but also served as a true mark to the unifying power of music. It was a celebration of diversity, a fusion of cultures, and a reminder that no matter where we come from, the love for music knows no bounds and boundaries.
