Rwandan teams depart for regional school games Thursday

Rwandan school teams’ representatives at this year’s East African post primary (FEASSA) games will depart on Thursday. The tournament will run from August 24 to 31 in Lira, northern Uganda.

Rwandan school teams’ representatives at this year’s East African post primary (FEASSA) games will depart on Thursday. The tournament will run from August 24 to 31 in Lira, northern Uganda.The travelling party will be made up of 23 teams that will compete in nine sports disciplines, namely, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Netball (girls only), Rugby (boys only), Athletics, Tennis and Table-tennis.In last year’s edition in Bujumbura, Rwanda and debutants South Sudan finished empty-handed. Kenya was the dominant country, winning six titles; Uganda finished second with five titles, while hosts Burundi claimed one title of girls’ basketball. According to Rwandan school sports federation’s executive secretary Florent Rwigema, Rwandan schools are expected to do much better this time round contrary to last year’s poor performance.The Director of Sports in the Ministry of Education, Paterne Rwigema, confirmed the departure date. "Rwanda’s delegation will set off for Uganda on Thursday and will spend the night in Kampala before proceeding to Lira the next day.”The 23-team delegationAPE Rugunga and ESI Gisenyi (boys’ football), Solidarity academy and APAER Kabuga (girls’ football), Saint Joseph Kabgayi and Lycee de Nyanza (boys’ volleyball), GS Indangaburezi and Saint Joseph Kabyayi (girls’ volleyball), ES Kigoma and Saint Aloys Rwamagana (boys’ handball), ET Mukingi and Apapeki Cyuru (girls’ handball), Lycee de Kigali and College Amis des Enfants (boys’ basketball) and APE Rugunga (girls’ basketball).Others are: G. S Gahini in netball (girls), ET Mukingi in rugby (boys), two athletics teams (boys and girls) each made up of 20 athletes, two tennis and two table-tennis teams (boys and girls) each made up of two players.
