Rwanda’s entire education system should be revised

Editor,This is with reference to Stephen Mugisha’s article, "Webometrics: who takes the blame for the poor rankings?”(The New Times, August 13).In my opinion, the entire Rwandan education system is lagging behind. It is not only higher institutions of learning but all levels, from primary school to high school.I think the first one to blame is the entire framework. Government has the goodwill but lack the right strategies to take our education system to the next level. We get thousands of graduates every year and many remain unemployed for long. Yet many foreign companies claim that they could not find skilled people in Rwanda. The poor ranking of our tertiary institutions is just a symptom; there is a general lack of a solid foundation. We are not giving our kids the education they need; we are just giving them degrees. Our education is not competitive-driven, and this calls for urgent action by all actors.John, Kigali
