Dear editor,

Upcoming tennis female player Gisel Umumararungu stands to be Rwanda’s ‘Venus Williams’ if given the best training and playing conditions.

I saw her beating China-Kenyan born Chen Wendy 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 in the first leg of the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) U-14 tennis circuit girls’ singles at Cercle Sportif.

She used three hours to record a classic victory, which I regarded as ‘El Classico’, to win over Wendy in the tournament.

The tournament is under the patronage of Rwanda’s First Lady Jeannette Kagame.

If only she can improve on her strokes and start gym work to gain strength in her arms and legs, she could be a copy of USA tennis player Venus Williams.

Let us wait and see if she can improve in the second leg. Come all and cheer, she may even win the last game on Saturday.
