Société Pétrolière (SP) Rwanda has opened its first filling station in Tanzania -- called SP Visiga -- to expand its fuel business in the neighbouring country, the company said in a press release on August 3.

The establishment of SP Tanzania emphasises the company's drive to explore new markets and provide service to its ever-growing customer base.

The company pointed out that SP Visiga, Tanzania, joins a retail network of 64 service stations in Rwanda and 18 in Morocco, to further the company&039;s expanding presence.

This implies that, so far, the firm has fuel business in two African countries -- aside from Rwanda.

SP Visiga has a strategic location, the firm said, and holds immense potential, not only catering to the local market, but also playing a role in facilitating cross-border trade between Rwanda and Tanzania.

Its positioning, it added, will serve as a vital logistical base for transporters, fostering regional economic development and progress.

"After inaugurating new operations in Morocco a few weeks ago, it is with great pride that we inaugurate, today, our first petrol station in Tanzania. Located on the road to Rwanda, this location represents an ideal location for a market entry for SP," the CEO of SP Rwanda, Yves Legrux, said

'From this location, we look forward to providing customers with their first Rwandan experience on their way to the country of a thousand hills. We are convinced that this first site will not be the last and we look forward to many more," he added.

Since its inception, SP has moved petroleum products from Tanzania to Rwanda taking advantage of the long-standing positive trade relationship between the countries, the firm observed.
