Editor,What the Bible, the Koran or any other religious scripture allows or doesn’t is irrelevant to today’s social organisation and governance. Both texts consider women men’s chattel property on the same level as camels, cattle, slaves or other property, to do with as their owners’ wish.Their model of social organisation was perhaps alright for bygone days -- and even that is highly arguable; would you accept that slavery was fine? -- but it is thoroughly anachronistic for today’s world.People should get over what they erroneously believe to have been Holy Book-fueled golden age of morality; it never existed.
