Rulindo hailed for poverty fight

Rulindo District has been hailed for its efforts to reduce poverty among residents. Northern Province Governor Aime Bosenibamwe expressed the appreciation, last week, during the district’s Accountability Day.

Rulindo District has been hailed for its efforts to reduce poverty among residents.Northern Province Governor Aime Bosenibamwe expressed the appreciation, last week, during the district’s Accountability Day.During the Day, local leaders and members of the private sector assessed what has been done in implementing last fiscal year’s performance contracts and grassroots leaders signed new contracts.The district’s good performance was attributed to leadership stability, commitment and team work."Rulindo District tops other districts of Northern Province in terms of poverty eradication thanks to your hard work. You perform well despite the fact that your district is poor in terms of resources,” said Bosenibamwe.He challenged the district to be result-oriented."Make sure you have performance indicators, establish ways to evaluate each month and at the household levels. The district should focus on the main pillars of job creation and education,” he added.War on poverty Rulindo intends to end extreme poverty within 500 days, according to the president of district advisory council, Pascal Gatabazi."As leaders we should aim higher, we need to eradicate poverty before the set period [2015]. Through team work we shall achieve this, we need to boost productivity, improve our health sector and infrastructure, among other sectors,” he said."We are doing our best, we mobilise resources and as leaders we should own the development agenda as development is a shared goal,” he added.Best performers recognisedStakeholders who supported the district to implement its performance contracts were recognised.Cyinzuzi was recognised as the best sector among 17 of the district having  implemented all its performance targets.The Executive Secretary of Cyinzuzi, Jurithe Mujijima, attributed their good performance to collaboration with other local leaders."We managed to change lives of the residents through team work. I am committed to implementing performance contracts we signed, today together with the same team, and we are also committed to remain on top,” said Mujijima.
