The national football governing body, Ferwafa finds Under-18 team a stern and strong contender for the 2009 African Nations Cup youth tournament due to be held Kigali, Rwanda.

The Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer, Jules Kalisa told Times Sport yesterday that the current youth team has drastically improved and has higher chances of winning the African trophy on home soil.

"These youngsters have improved a lot and if they receive the care and the management they deserve at the moment, and then they will triumph during the 2009 African youth tournament,” Kalisa said.

Kalisa added that the two week stint they will spend in Germany will not only help them improve on their football skills but it will also shape them up to become professional players.

The U-18 national team heads to Frankfurt, Germany this weekend for a two-week training program meant at improving their psychological and mental approach towards football championships.

The youthful team has been undergoing intensive training for the last two weeks at Amahoro stadium.

The team has been under the management of Ferwafa technical Director, Michael Weiss and Eric Nshimiyimana respectively.

The German-born Michael Weiss who is also the Ferwafa technical director was contracted four months ago to prepare the youth team to play in the U-20 continental tournament.
