Busy day for Rwandan teams at military games

TodayFootballAPR     vs     Simba BasketballRwanda     vs     UgandaHandballRwanda     vs.     BurundiNetballRwanda     vs.    Kenya THIRTEEN-TIME league champions APR start their quest for regional military silverware against Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF)’s Simba today in the Seventh Edition of the East Africa Military Games at Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.The military side, under tutelage of German coach Andreas Spiers, will be hoping to ensure a bright start to the region’s Military Games which the Rwandans have hitherto failed to win.Simba came from behind to hold Kenya Defence Forces’ Ulinzi Stars to a 2-all draw in the opening match on Wednesday.The defending champions drew first blood in the ninth minute through former Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka’s midfielder Musa Mudde. But in the 25th minute, former national team Harambee Stars captain Hassan Mohammed brought down Simba’s winger Edward Nkume inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot.Substitute Henry Senkuguba made no mistake as he beat Ulinzi’s custodian Francis Ochieng to restore parity.Ten minutes later, Evans Amuoka was on the mark, beating Ugandan goalkeeper Sampangi Harrison with a 25-yard shot on the right flank before Kevin Amwayi scored the leveller at the stroke of half time with a header.Away from football, today is also a busy day for three other RDF representatives – in basketball, handball and netball –with games against opponents from Uganda, Burundi and hosts Kenya.In basketball, APR, under the tutelage of Kenyan tactician Cliff Owour, will taken on Uganda’s representatives at MISC Kasarani Gym.In handball, Rwanda takes on Burundi at Nyayo stadium, while in netball, Rwanda will face Kenya at Kenya School of Monetary Studies.RDF contingent is comprised of 94 members.The Rwandan delegation, by Col Tom Mpaka, is made up of 22 players who will take part in football, 18 in basketball, 17 in netball, 17 in handball and 14 in athletics.The East African Community Military Games and Cultural Events have been held on a rotational basis since 2005, when the first edition was held in Kampala, Uganda.Rwanda hosted the 2009 edition.
