APR coach to bank on Cecafa experience for success

APR FC will be hoping to use the experience gained from the Cecafa Kagame Club Championship to stamp authority in the 2013 East Africa Military Games and Cultural Events that will be staged in Nairobi from August 5 to 17.Speaking to Times Sport yesterday before the team’s departure, German tactician Andreas Spier said, "We have a relatively youthful squad but good in quality and ready to win the tournament. It will be a little different but we are focused and determined to emerge winners.”Spier will be without some of his senior players like goalkeeper Jean Ndoli, Emery Bayisenge, Michel Rusheshangonga, Andrew Buteera, Barnabe Mubumbyi, Maxime Sekamana, who have been called up to the national team as well as the U20 team for Francophone Games.Tumaine Ntamuhanga and Jean Claude Iranzi are also major absentees nursing injuries sustained during the Cecafa Kagame Cup in June.However, the military side which left in the wee hours today aboard Kenya airways will be guided by midfield kingpin Jean Baptist Mugiraneza, Eric Nsabimana, Patrick Sibomana, Michel Ndahinduka and Olivier Kwizera.The 13-time Rwandan league champions will open their campaign against Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) team, Simba, on August 9.The team will also face defending champions Kenya’s Ulinzi Stars on August 12, Tanzania Defence Forces on August 13, before winding up with a tie against Burundi on August 15.Two years ago, APR, who rested their senior players, were bundled out of the tournament in the knock-out stage and Rwanda went on to finish fourth overall, their best performance being winning the athletics bronze medal.Kenya bagged three gold medals (in handball, cross-country men and women) and three silver (in netball, basketball and football) to finish at the top of the table.Uganda followed with the football gold, handball and cross country (women) silver medals and bronze in netball while hosts Burundi came third with the basketball gold, the cross country (men) silver and the bronze in football.The military side leads a strong Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) delegation which will also compete in handball, athletics, basketball and netball.APR squad: Olivier Kwizera, Umar Rwabugili, Hamdan Bariyanga, Abdul Rwatubyaye, Heritier Turatsinze, Albert Ngabo, Charles Tibingana, Nova Bayama, Jean Baptista Mugiraneza, Yannick Mukunzi, Eric Rutanga, Eric Nsabimana, Hegman Ngoma, Patrick Sibomana, Michel Ndahinduka, Ernest Sugira and Suleiman Kakira.
