REB sets aside Rwf100m for regional post-primary games

RWANDA EDUCATION Board (REB) has set a side Rwf100 million to cater for preparation and participation of Rwandan teams in this year’s East African post-primary games scheduled for August 20-30 in Lira, Northern Uganda.Rwanda’s delegation will be made up of 23 teams which will compete in nine sports disciplines namely; football, basketball, volleyball, handball, netball, rugby, athletics, tennis and table tennis.Paterne Rwigema, the official in charge of sports in the Ministry for Education, confirmed the development on Friday. He said, "FEASSA games budget was moved to Rwanda Education Board (REB) and this year’s budget for the teams will be an estimated Rwf100 million for both preparations and participation.” Rwanda’s teams will include;  APE Rugunga and ESI Gisenyi (boys’ football), Solidarity Academy and APAER Kabuga (girls’ football), Saint Joseph Kabgayi and Lycée de Nyanza (boys’ volleyball), GS Indangaburezi and Saint Joseph Kabgayi (girls’ volleyball), ES Kigoma and Saint Aloys Rwamagana (boys’ handball), ET Mukingi and APAPEKI Cyuru (girls’ handball), ET Mukingi in rugby (boys), and GS Gahini in netball (girls).Others are; Lycee de Kigali and College Amis des Enfants (boys’ basketball), APE Rugunga in girls’ basketball, two athletics teams (boys and girls), two tennis teams (boys and girls) and two table tennis teams (boys and girls).Last year in the Burundian capital Bujumbura, Kenya finished top with seven titles in the boys’ and girls’ volleyball, boys’ and girls’ hockey, boys’ basketball and rugby; Uganda was second with five titles for the boys’ and girls’ football, boys’ and girls’ handball and netball; hosts Burundi finished third with girls’ basketball title, while Rwandan teams returned empty-handed.
