Rwanda Olympic Committee vice president Elie Manirarora has praised the local cricket governing body, RCA for promoting the relatively new sport in Rwandan schools.Manirarora thanked Rwanda Cricket Association for promoting the sport, which was introduced in the country in the early 2000s at the club level and in schools about seven years ago.He said, "Cricket is among the most popular sport disciplines in the world and, in Rwanda, it is growing fast and steadily, we (RNOC) hope it will become one of the greatest disciplines in the country in a few years to come.”The former volleyball referee expressed optimism for the rapid development of cricket in Rwanda.Manirarora made the remarks during the prize giving ceremony at the end of the 2013 Schools’ Cricket boys’ week which was won by Kagarama Secondary School on Tuesday.The Kicukiro-based schools were crowned champions for the sixth year in a row after beating rivals Efotec SS by nine wickets in the final at Kicukiro Cricked Oval. Kenneth Bryson Bugingo led Kagarama SS to the title in a low scoring final.Bugingo, who was later voted the player-of-the tournament, opened the bowling and he took two wickets and made 16 runs not out as the defending champions chased the target of 39 runs in just five overs. He was helped by Valence Muvunyi, who picked three wickets.Earlier in the day, the first semi-final saw Efotec beat GS Giporoso in a thriller, while in the second semi-final; Kagarama beat IPRC Kigali by nine wickets after they restricted them to a low score of 85 runs. The schools participating in this year’s boys tournament included; Kagarama SS, Efotec SS, Apred Ndera SS, Lycee de Ruhango, GS Giporoso, GS St. Joseph, IPTC and Apade SS. The girls’ tournament will take place in September.
