Apred Ndera and Kagarama SS register double wins

The 2013 Boys Schools Cricket tournament kicked off in Kigali on Sunday with eight teams participating in the annual event.This is one of the development programs that are run by Rwanda Cricket Association to promote the sport in Rwanda.On the opening day, Apred Ndera and Kagarama SS were the only teams that won their first two games which took them to the top of their respective groups. Apred beat G.S St. Joseph Kabgayi by a massive 108 runs in the morning before upsetting favourites IPRC/TCC - Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre/Technical Secondary School by 17 runs in the afternoon."We set a small score of 77 runs and thought it would be a walk in the park for the talented IPRC team but they failed to chase it,” said Apred captain Philips Mugabo.His opposite number of IPTC, Eric Ndangamyambi admitted, "Their bowlers put us under so much pressure which led to our batsmen falling cheaply.”Defending champions Kagarama SS set a record by smashing new comers Lycee de Ruhango by 216 runs. Kagarama batted first and posted a big score of 236/4 runs thanks to Bryson Bugingo, who hit 79 runs and later took 4 wickets.Apade SS lost their first game to Kagarama after batting first and posting only 70 runs. "It was an easy chase for us,” said Bugingo, who made 33 runs not out.EFOTEC beat Lycee de Ruhango by 179 runs. Young and talented Boss Kimararungu scored his highest score of 58 runs for EFOTEC.GS Giporoso’s Orckide Tuyisenge was declared man of match in the game against IPRC after hitting 64 runs. Eric Ndangamyambi helped IPRC win with a cool 68 runs.By press time the group preliminary games were continuing on Monday and the top two teams from each group will proceed to play the semi-final today morning  with the final to be played in the afternoon.
