Korea International Cooperation Agency (Koica) has committed to help improve farming in Kibeho Sector of Nyaruguru District by educating farmers on appropriate farming methods. This is one of the areas of cooperation agreed upon under an agreement signed on Wednesday between representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Koica. The signing ceremony, by Koica country representative Kim Sang Chul, Ministry of Agriculture Permanent Secretary Ernest Ruzindaza, was preceded by a meeting to discuss ways of implementing the Integrated Rural Development Project in Kibeho Sector. "Koica will undertake various activities. These include developing 200 hectares of newly-terraced agricultural land, rehabilitating 170 hectares of land, and developing 80 hectares of marshland,” a statement received by this paper said. The agreement will also facilitate coordination for each party to effectively contribute to the success of the project. "This project responds to real needs of the people. It will play a big role in increasing productivity. This will not only benefit the farmers but will also contribute towards market growth,” Ruzindaza said. The project will have operational sites in three villages of Mubuga Cell. It is hoped that it will contribute to poverty fight and improve livelihood through enabling residents to engage in income-generation activities.  Koica says plans are underway to improve the overall living environment through construction of a community centre, a multi-purpose warehouse, grain storage facility and public toilets. Kim promised that his country will continue working with Rwanda based on the bilateral cooperation the countries enjoy.
