THE APR handball club kicked off preparations for the upcoming East African Community Military Games yesterday at Kimisagara Youth Centre.The club is part of the Rwandan military delegation which will take part in this year’s East African Community (EAC) Military Games to be staged in Nairobi, Kenya from August 5 to 17.The military side is accomodated at Kabusunzu.The provisional team is made up of Celestin Hakizimana, Pierre Claver Mukimbiri, Olivier Ntwali, Bosco Bitana, Andrew Ndagijimana, Camalade Gilbert, Amande Paul Rugira, Etienne Iyakaremye, Jean de Dieu Nyirimanzi and Emile Giraneza.Others are Jean Marie Vianey Kunduwawe, Jean Paul Nduwayo, Benoit Gasigwa and Jeseph Akumuntu.After finishing fourth in 2009 and 2011, the club is aiming at nothing but winning the tournament, according to head coach Jean Marie Vianey Munyangondo.The players are in good shape and we are in position to win the title,” added Munyangondo.The games’ major objective is to contribute to confidence building and nurturing a spirit of sportsmanship among the EAC armies as well as for the soldiers to showcase their immense and diverse rich cultures.In the previous edition that was hosted by Burundi in 2011, Rwanda was represented by 108 athletes who competed in football, basketball, handball, netball and cross-country.
