After their Burundi conquest a few weeks ago, Rwanda’s premier comedy group, the Comedy Knights, will on Friday be at Papyrus Restaurant and Bar in Kimuhurura to entertain comedy fans with their rib-cracking jokes.

"We’ve decided to spread our wings to other parts of the country and neighbouring countries,” said Jerome Mugisha, the manager of the Comedy Knights.

"Already Burundi seems to be our new best audience having done eight shows there. The response is huge and thousands of people have been touched by our work,” he noted.

While they plan to add Uganda and DR Congo to their upcoming schedules, the group will be performing in Burundi every two months.

As the pioneers of comedy in Rwanda, we can tell you that the country is responding so well and we’ll not stop until we’ve been to most parts of the country,” added Mugisha.

Performances will be from the group members Herve Kimenyi, Arthur Nkusi, Mike Sengazi, Robert Niyonkuru, famous for his stage name Rob, John Mugara and George Murungi, aka Babu.

Mugisha told The New Times that there will be a guest artiste who will only be announced to the audience at the event.

Tickets cost Rwf5,000 and the show starts at 7pm.

Comedy Knights was formed in 2010 by Arthur Nkusi,  Jerome Mugisha and Michael Sengazi. They were inspired to form the group after watching Umuvunyi, a show directed by Carole Karemera, the artistic director of Ishyo Arts Centre.

The group has since increased to seven members.
