AFTER two days of rest, Amavubi resume training today in Rubavu ahead of the second leg of the 2014 CHAN qualifier against Ethiopia which will be played on July 27 at Stade de Kigali.

Amavubi are facing up to the prospect of missing out on the 2014 Africa Nations Championship [CHAN] finals in South Africa following last Sunday’s away 0-1 defeat to Sewnet Bishaw’s Ethiopia Walya Antelopes side.

Head coach Eric Nshimiyimana told Times Sport yesterday, "We are reporting to camp this evening [yesterday], to start double training sessions tomorrow [today] at Rubavu stadium until next Saturday,”

"We are determined to get a good result against Ethiopia next weekend. The boys have strong mental strength and are eager to make an improvement in the return leg,”

"We will utilise all our chances and am optimistic we can overturn the result in the remaining ninety minutes so as to qualify for South Africa next year,” added Nshimiyimana.

Nshimiyimana starts preparations with a full and injury-free squad except for striker Meddie Kagere who left the country on Monday for trials in South Africa.

However, he is expected back on July 21, six days before Rwanda hosts Ethiopia. 

Amavubi need to score and win at home against the Ethiopian team that won the first leg by a lone goal in Addis Ababa last Sunday.

The mission to post a victory in Kigali is a tall order basing on the fact that Amavubi have never won a match in Kigali against the visitors following the 2005 Cecafa Challenge title loss at Amahoro stadium.
