The electronic media sports journalists overwhelmed their colleagues of the print media 4-1 in the first leg genocide memorial match played on Tuesday at the Ferwafa grounds in Remera.

The match was organised by the Association of Sports Journalists in Rwanda (AJSPOR to remember their colleagues, who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Before the opening whistle, both teams and fans took a minute of silence in honor of victims.

Two earlier goals from Samuel Imanishimwe of RC Huye and Felix ‘Romario’ Gakuba of Voice of Africa put the Electronic media team in the lead. The print media immediately re-organised and scored their first goal through Jean Luc Imfurayacu.

However, just before the half time whistle, the Electronic media team got a free-kick not far from the halfway line, which was nicely driven past goalkeeper Ernest Karinganire to make it 3-1.

Although the print media came into second-half motivated and creating more goal scoring opportunities, poor finishing and visible lack of fitness let them down before Imanishimwe scored his second and his team’s fourth goal.

The second leg match is scheduled to be played in three weeks’ time.
