Paralympian Muvunyi eyes medal in World Champs

African 400m Paralympic record holder Hermas Muvunyi is targeting to win a medal at the forthcoming World Championship scheduled for July 22-28 in Paris, France.The 22-year-old Paralympian returned to Rwanda last Thursday from Athens, Greece where he has been training for past two weeks.Muvunyi, who holds the record for the fastest African Paralympian in the 400m men’s category after clocking 49.75secs at the 2012 London Paralympics Games, joined his compatriot Theoneste Nsengimana on Sunday in camp at the Heroes Corner Motel in Remera.The pair will be training at Amahoro National Stadium till July 17, the day of their departure for the World Championships."I learnt a lot in Athens. After a two-week training I had from there, I will be continuing with my preparations at the Amahoro stadium. All my attention and focus is to win a medal I have competed at the world stage in last year’s London Paralympics and earned good experience for such competitions,” Muvunyi told this paper by telephone.Muvunyi will compete in the 400&800m races, while Nsengimana will compete in the 1500m category.
