Previous hosts since 20052005: Uganda2006: Kenya2007: Tanzania2008: Uganda2009: Rwanda2011: Burundi2010&2012: Not heldKenya was selected to host this year’s east African community (EAC) games that are scheduled for August 5-17 in Nairobi, EAC Secretary General Dr. Richard Sezibera announced early this week.The annual event will attract men’s and women’s teams from all the five member states of the east African community namely, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda hosts Kenya.  The teams will compete in Football, Basketball, Handball, Netball and Cross-country athletics.The games’ major objective is not competition but to contribute to confidence building and nurturing a spirit of sportsmanship among the EAC armies as well as for the individual soldiers to demonstrate their immense talents and diverse rich cultures.The last edition held in 2011 was hosted in Bujumbura, Burundi where Kenya won three gold medals (in handball, cross-country men and women) and three silver medals in (netball, basketball and football) to finish top of the medals table.Uganda followed with one gold medal in football, silver medals in handball and women’s cross-country and bronze in netball, while hosts Burundi secured third place with one gold medal in basketball, silver in men’s cross-country and bronze in football.Tanzania in fourth place took a gold medal in netball and two bronze medals in basketball and women’s cross-country, while Rwanda finished in fifth position with a bronze medal in the women’s cross country.Rwanda was represented by 108 athletes, who competed in cross-country, football, netball, handball and basketball.
