Tom Close to light up Kampala

Rwandan R&B singer Tom Close will perform at the ‘Rwanda Night’ in Kampala. The ‘Rwanda Night’, a monthly event at Club Rouge, will take place on Saturday, June 29 and will feature the 2011 Primus Guma Guma Superstar winner.

Rwandan R&B singer Tom Close will perform at the ‘Rwanda Night’ in Kampala.The ‘Rwanda Night’, a monthly event at Club Rouge, will take place on Saturday, June 29 and will feature the 2011 Primus Guma Guma Superstar winner.Organised by Gift Pro, the event that aims at promoting Rwandan music in Uganda, will also feature performances by Uganda’s Goodlyfe Crew, Radio and Weasel.Tom Close is a member of Goodlyfe and the trio recorded a song dubbed, "Mama Wabane Bange”, which is enjoying airplay on reputable radio stations in Rwanda and Uganda.Speaking to The New Times before the event, Tom Close said he is "honoured” to be invited to perform at the event."It’s such an important event and the work that Gift Pro is doing is fantastic. My fans in Uganda should expect a great performance. I’ll make them dance and enjoy our music,” promised Tom Close."The Rwanda Night has become a major event in Kampala and most people, especially Rwandans and friends of Rwanda in Kampala always look forward to it,” said Gift Giftorius of Gift Pro.He added, "Tom Close has fans in Uganda and we think he’s the right person to entertain guests that night.” Tom Close was born Thomas Muyombo in Masindi District, Uganda, in 1986 to Edward Karangwa and Faith Grace Dukuze.He is a Rwandan R&B singer/songwriter, who developed his music career while singing in the choir at Don Bosco Church, Kimihurura. Tom rose to fame in 2007 after the release of his debut single "Mbwira.”  He has recorded songs with established artistes like U.S-based Rwandan artiste. The Ben, Uganda’s singing duo Radio and Weasel and Zambian star General Ozzy, among others.The "Do Me Like That” star has a number of songs to his name-namely "Impamvu”, "Amarira”, "Ntibanyurwa”, "Ndamuhamagara”, "Sinzigera Nkureka”, "Komeza Utsinde” and "Natamani.” He has four albums and he has won several awards, most notably the 2008 Best Artiste at the National University of Rwanda by Campus Initiative Promotion in Rector Excellence Awards, Best Artiste of the Year Salax Awards 2009 and Primus Guma Guma Superstar award 2011. Tom, 29, has also performed along side international music icons here in Rwanda like Brick and Lace, Shaggy, Lauryn Hill, Sean Kingston and Kevin Little, among others.The doctor-cum-singer is currently working on his fifth album that will be released late this year. The Rwanda Night started in 2010 and it has featured performances by various local artistes, like Intore Masamba, Kitoko, Urban Boys and Knowless.
