Team Rwanda riders dominate Tour of Congo Stage 1

Team Rwanda’s Emmanuel Rudahunga won the opening stage of the 2013 Tour of the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday with teammates Emile Bintuimana, Hassan Rukundo and Joseph Biziyaremye finishing 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.

Stage 1 Top fourEmmanuel Rudahunga (Rwa)Clem Medric (Fra)Emile Bintunimana (Rwa)Hassan Rukundo (Rwa)Team Rwanda’s Emmanuel Rudahunga won the opening stage of the 2013 Tour of the Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday with teammates Emile Bintuimana, Hassan Rukundo and Joseph Biziyaremye finishing 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.The Rwandan riders sandwiched Frenchman Clem Madrid in second place in stage one from Matadi to Songolo covering a distance of 90 kilometers. According to Team Rwanda officials, the four Rwandan riders, all making their debut in the tour, took off at the end of the stage at the bottom of the hill and out-climbed the rest of the field.The riders are in the company of the national team head coach Jonathan Boyer and team physiotherapist Obed Ruvogera.This is the first time Team Rwanda participates in this annual Tour of Congo that is running from June 18-29. The tour comprises nine stages.
