Both teams have 18 points, having both lost and drawn one game apiece but the Police have scored 79 goals, 28 goals more than second-placed Gicumbi, who have found the back of the opposition net 51 times.Sunday’s game marked the official end of the handball league first-half, now the league takes a short break  and the second phase is expected to start on a date yet to be fixed.International Labour Day cup winners, Gicumbi have been leading the table since the beginning of the season. After his team’s first defeat of the season, Gicumbi handball club head coach, Ebenezel Murenzi told this paper, "I can’t blame the players for the defeat, we had a couple of off field issues to contend with mainly financial, and Police profited from our bad moments.”"The team is lacking enough funds for players to prepare well and concentrate but Gicumbi District has promised to help us overcome the crisis and concentrate on the championship,” he revealed.
