With the champions AS Kigali having already been crowned, the race for second place remains wide open between three teams which are separated by four points.

National women football premier league moved on towards its climax this weekend, with the eighteenth match-day of the championship.

The second-placed The Winners, who are 15 points behind champions AS Kigali, beat hosts Rambura 2-1 at the weekend to remain a point ahead of third-placed APR with two rounds of matches remaining.

"If we win our two remaining league matches, then we achieve our target to finish second,” The Winners president Innocent Ntisumbwa told Times Sport after Saturday’s win.

He added, "This is our second season in national women’s league. Last year we finished fourth but this time our target is to finish second now that AS Kigali have already retained the title.”

Next up for the Gisozi-based The Winners is a home fixture against Les Lionnais next weekend before wrapping up the season with an away clash against second from bottom side Imirasire, the weekend after.

The champions AS Kigali maintained their unbeaten sequence with a 2-1 win over Kamonyi, while APR kept pressure on The Winners with a slim 1-0 win away to Imirasire.
