BUGESERA - The National Commission for the fight against HIV/AIDS (CNLS) donated Frw6 million to Genocide survivors in Kagasera Sector, Bugesera District in the Eastern Province, to help them start an income generating project.

The cheque was presented to the sector’s Ibuka representative, Felicien Ngarambe. Frw1 million was used to purchase foodstuff for the survivors.

The Deputy Executive Secretary of CNLS, Antoine Semukanya, advised the survivors to form a cooperative and then request for financial support which he assured them they would get.

He said that the institution decided to visit the widows and orphans in the sector because it was aware that life was not easy for Genocide survivors because of the scars inflicted on them by the genocide.

"If you continue working hard you will get more support to carry on progressing in life. But this has to be out of your hard work,” he advised.

Semukanya also advised those infected with HIV/AIDS to avoid pregnancies because it does not only weaken the infected mother-to-be, but could also result in the infection of the unborn child whose livelihood will be endangered.

The Executive Secretary of Kagasera Sector, Antoine Rusingizandekwe, revealed that the Genocide survivors’ estate has 98 families.

The CNLS staff headed by Semukanya also visited Ntarama and Nyamata Memorial sites where they donated Frw1 million for the maintenance of the sites.
