President Kagame offers a lesson to other statesmen

I am a Kenyan now leaving in Rwanda, and would like to congratulate His Excellency President Kagame for his openness and willingness to meet members of the press freely and regularly in an open forum to discuss issues affecting this nation and the region at large.

This is a unique gesture from a head of state in Africa considering a region we have witnessed real animosity between the press and the state.

It is easier to have the head of state press conference here than to have a government spokesman to address similar conferences in Kenya leave alone meet the president.

President Kagame should be emulated by the other African statesmen for his vision for a united Africa on accountability especially in implementing government programmes and making regular follow-ups through such forums.

This leaves everyone in public offices aware that it will just take a mere mention of some discrepancy to blow out a serious investigation into their respective departments.

I think it also gives the head of state an open ear to real issues affecting the people and not the edited reports he might receive through the formal channels.
