RWANDA National Olympic Committee (RNOC) go to polls today to elect their new leaders in general elections which will be held at Lemigo Hotel.Secretary General Parfair Busabizwa, who is seeking a second term, told Saturday Sport yesterday that everything is set for the body to conduct a free and fair election."We have ensured that everything is in place. Despite all the manipulations and defamation that have been going on in the press, nothing will stop the Olympic family from voting wisely for competent leaders,” said Busabizwa.Former Minister of Sports and Culture Robert Bayigamba is standing unopposed for the post of RNOC chairman after his rival Jean Sayinzoga failed to meet the needed requirements.Even though he is unopposed for the position, he must garner 50+1 votes to be able to assume the office. Other positions up for grabs include the 1st and 2nd vice-president, the secretary general, treasurer and two advisors. The position is of 1st vice-president contested by Phophina Gashugi Muhimundu and Julienne Murekezi, while Bernard Uwimana will challenge incumbent 2nd vice president Elie Manirarora. Busabizwa is fending off competition from little known Ahmed Habineza to be able to retain the secretary general position. The post of treasurer on the contrary is tightly contested by Thierry Rwabusaza and Theogene Uwayo. Six people namely; Nicolas Dusine, Albert Kayiranga, Jean Paul Munyandamutsa, Felicite Rwemalika, Shyaka Kanuma and Ernestine Umulisa are battling for two advisors’ posts.Officials from 28 sports federations and associations in Rwanda are only allowed to vote. The incumbent leadership was elected into office in 2009.Outgoing chairman Brig. Gen. Charles Rudakubana will not stand for re-election as he is on an official mission abroad.
