Biruta roots for quality education

THE MINISTER of Education, Dr Vincent Biruta, has urged universities and other higher learning institutions to keep striving for quality education in order to remain relevant.

THE MINISTER of Education, Dr Vincent Biruta, has urged universities and other higher learning institutions to keep striving for quality education in order to remain relevant.He was speaking in Huye as he visited different higher learning institutions based in the district.Biruta (Pictured) told staff and representatives of students at the Catholic University of Rwanda (CUR) that the quality of their work would determine their place in the labour market. He also visited the Protestant Institute for Arts and Social Sciences (PIASS)."Students need to be highly qualified to successfully compete on the labour market”, the minister said.He advised universities to hire qualified lecturers, improve on their facilities and respect entry requirements while recruiting their students in order to remain competitive.Minister Biruta also urged the educators to improve access to e-resources in order to help their students’ access update learning materials.He further called pon higher learning institutions to establish a clear mechanism through which available human resources can be shared. "How can someone be a senior lecturer in one university and an associate professor in another,” he questioned as he faulted the practice. "You cannot hold both ranks”, Biruta said, urging higher learning institutions to always discuss between them whenever they want to share human resources.
