Some people have argued that the country’s music industry is currently full of youngsters who are claiming to be stars. But truth be told, the industry has created a platform for many young artistes to develop their talents. Eric Rwigema, popularly known as Ricky Password is one such outstanding artiste, who also doubles as a traditional dancer in Inganzo Ngali cultural troupe and an actor. He confesses he has always wanted to be a musician. He says he was inspired by his family and friends to venture into the music industry. "Before I started singing, I was playing a guitar but I later realised that I could also sing,” Ricky Password told The New Times. It was a blessing in disguise because in 2010 he released his first song, Mpumura amaso. The following year, Ricky Password released Ko Umpindutse. The singer/songwriter went on to release more songs, including Ndababaye, Umukukunzi Utanzi, Umwihariko and Molo, which has earned rotational airplay on several radio stations.Recently he released his latest single, Wikozeho, a collabo with Bull Dog.Nevertheless, even in Rwanda, the music industry is no bed of roses, because one has to work hard in order to brave the rough waters of music. Ricky Password says it is not easy to penetrate the industry, because of the expenses."It doesn’t stop at only going to the studio and singing, but it also requires promotion, time and lots of hard work,” says the budding Rock star.Ricky Password encourages upcoming musicians not to give up their dream, despite the obstacles: "Follow your dream and be persistent; you will once be on top of the game.” The Molo star promises his fans great tracks and music videos this year. Although Ricky Password’s second language is French, he has the ability to do his music in English.
