While speaking at a press briefing in Kigali, Hungarian President Katalin Novák said that her country is a doorway to the European Union, just like Rwanda is a doorway to the African continent.

Prior to the press briefing, Novák and President Paul Kagame witnessed the signing of MoUs on the training of Rwanda experts on atomic and peaceful use of nuclear energy, a Stipendium Hungaricum agreement as well as a loan facility agreement on upgrading of the Karenge water treatment plant.

The upgrade of the water treatment plant is expected to cost $52 million and will double water supply in Kigali.

The financial offer to Rwanda comes from a background of Hungary as a country rich in mineral waters and water management technologies hence being called ‘the land of waters’.
