SOUTHERN PROVINCE

HUYE — Vedaste Nshimyimana has been appointed as the new Executive Secretary of Huye District.

Nshimyimana who has been working as the Executive Secretary of Rusatira Sector in the district, was approved by the District Advisory Council on Wednesday after beating six other candidates.

The post fell vacant after the sacking of Esperence Nyiraneza over alleged incompetence last month. Another district official; Josephine Musabyimana, the former Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs, was also booted by the council that sat on May 16.

Commenting on the election, Aimable Twagiramutara, the district Mayor said the district was assisted by the Rwanda Institute of Administration and Management (RIAM) to come up with the names.

To ensure transparency in the selection exercise, "We conducted our own interviews at the district level but at later stage enlisted the help of RIAM to get the right candidate,” said Twagiramutara.

The district posted miserable results during the latest evaluation exercise of performance contracts. It scooped the penultimate position.

The changes in the district executive are seen as efforts to turn around the poor performance levels in the district that boasts of being home to many educational and research institutions.

It is home to the National University of Rwanda and the Institute of Scientific and Technological Research.
Speaking to our reporter, Nshimyimana said he would handle the challenge. "I am ready to deliver at this new elevated level,” he said.

The same meeting approved the appointment of Leonard Gakera as the Human Resource Manager.
