Kagame to attend Uhuru Kenyatta swearing-in

President Paul Kagame will today join other Heads of State at the swearing-in ceremony of Kenya’s President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta.  The 52-year-old fourth Kenyan leader will be sworn in at Kasarani Sports Complex in Nairobi.This will be the third time that Kenyans will witness transfer of power, but the second time that one President will be handing over power to another. In 1978, former President Daniel-arap Moi was sworn in as President after the death of Kenya’s founding President, Jomo Kenyatta, Uhuru’s father.  The first hand-over ceremony was witnessed on December 30, 2002, when Moi handed over to outgoing President Mwai Kibaki.The Deputy President-elect, William Ruto, will also be sworn in at the Tuesday inauguration, where Kibaki will officially hand over the reins to Uhuru. Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni is expected to give a key note address at the inaugural ceremony, also to be attended by Presidents Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania, Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi and Salva Kiir of South Sudan.
