Lenny Faraji Katite, 35, runs a bar in Kacyiru, Kigali

I wake up every day at 5 a.m. but before I leave my bedroom, I kneel to say prayers, thanking God for protecting me through the night.

After the prayers, I tune into BBC to listen to the day’s news until 6.30 then I take a shower. At 7 I head to work. I reach work at 7.15 and start going through the previous day’s sales then I do my stock report.

After the stock report, I start calling my suppliers before I prepare myself a cup of coffee. As I sip my coffee, I read the paper to get to know what is happening in the country.

After my staffs have arrived, I brief them, taking them through how the day should run. It is also my duty to deploy or rotate them. If there is anything that did not go well the previous day, I apportion blame.

On Wednesdays, I move around offices in town marketing our business and what we offer to our clients.

By 11.30 I’m always back to supervise the work done and see that everything is ready for 12 p.m. when clients start arriving.

As soon as the first client steps through the door, I start attending them. This is what takes up most of my day because I like talking to my clients. I really enjoy what I am doing because of many people I meet everyday.

After lunch, we re-arrange the restaurant, as I do the summary of the lunch sales. After this, I’ll have a snack for lunch.

I never eat much otherwise I’m likely to dose off!
Things are quiet until around 6.30 p.m. During the wait I like to help in the kitchen.

As all customers begin to leave I also have my last dinner.
I am always the last person to leave work, leaving after the last client has gone. The time can vary.

When I reach home very late in the night, I say a prayer again. I then turn on the radio for some music to help me relax.
