Gasigwa eyes Davis Cup

RWANDA’S top seed Jean-Claude Gasigwa has started preparations for this year’s Davis Cup group III Euro-Africa zone competition set to be staged in Cairo, Egypt in May.

Speaking to Times Sport recently, Gasigwa said, "I have had a good start this year, winning the Castle Lite Uganda Tennis Open in Uganda recently,”

Rwanda will play in Africa Group III in Cairo, Egypt. Rwanda’s best Davis Cup performance was a seventh place finish in Europe/Africa Zone Group III in 2009. Despite being the most experienced player in the country, Gasigwa who has made seven appearances in Davis Cup competitions is yet to guide Rwanda to a Davis Cup title in recent outings last recorded in 2010, 2009, and 2008.

The Cercle-Sportif club member is ranked 1778 in Davis Cup ATP rankings. He has  won nine matches [five single and four doubles] out of the 33 outdoor matches of all Davis Cup appearances. Rwanda, ranked 126 in ITF Davis Cup Nations rankings, currently competes in the Europe/Africa Zone of Group III. They finished second in Group B of Group IV in 2005.
